Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Rouge 2020

Domaine la Réméjeanne Les Arbousiers Rouge is a certified organic Côtes du Rhône from a single plot of old Grenache and Syrah named after the strawberry tree that grows around it.

The Côtes du Rhône appellation covers a vast sweep of the valley, and the difference between the ordinary and the good usually comes down to altitude and farming. La Réméjeanne sits in the Gard, on the right bank in the hills around Sabran, and works its vineyards at around 320 metres, high enough to ripen Grenache and Syrah fully while keeping the acidity that much of the southern Rhône has been losing. The estate is certified organic. Arbousiers is a blend of 60 per cent Grenache and 40 per cent Syrah from a single parcel of old vines, and it is deliberately made against type: rather than the weighty tannins and heavy extraction that many old-vine Rhône blends chase, this is finely balanced, with poise and freshness carrying the fruit.

Drinking well now and good for five or six years. Serve at 16-18°C with lamb shoulder, grilled sausages or a ratatouille.
