Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Rouge 2021

Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Rouge comes from a single plot of old vines at 320 metres in the Gard.

Réméjeanne is at Sabran, in the limestone hills on the right bank of the southern Rhône, high enough that Grenache and Syrah reach full ripeness while keeping the acidity that is scarce lower down. The wine is a certified organic blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from one old-vine parcel called Arbousiers, named for the strawberry tree that grows wild across the district. Olivier Klein fermented it naturally and raised it without sulphur in a combination of concrete tank and large oak casks. The style deliberately avoids the heavy tannin and high extraction common to old-vine southern Rhône blends, leaning instead on poise, lift and drinkability, and the result carries the freshness that marks out this domaine's work in both vineyard and cellar.

Drinking beautifully now and good for five or six years. Serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb, ratatouille or a herb-crusted roast.
