Description
Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Rouge is an even split of old-vine Grenache and Syrah from a single plot on the right bank of the Rhône.
Réméjeanne lies in the hills of the Gard, on the western side of the southern Rhône, where an average altitude of around 270 metres allows Grenache and Syrah to ripen fully while keeping the acidity that is often lost further down the valley. The estate is certified organic and is run by Olivier Klein. Les Arbousiers is named after the strawberry tree that grows wild on the property, and the cuvée comes from a single plot of old vines split evenly between the two varieties. The Grenache is fermented in whole bunches and the Syrah destemmed, with a maceration of about 15 days. Fermentation is spontaneous and the wine is raised without added sulphur for 18 months, the Syrah in concrete and the Grenache in large oak foudres, before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
Drinkable now and holding for five or six years, it suits lamb shoulder, charcuterie or a ratatouille. Serve at 16-18°C.
