Description
Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Chèvrefeuilles Rouge is a certified organic hillside blend from Sabran on the right bank of the southern Rhône.
La Réméjeanne sits at Sabran in the Gard, west of the river, where limestone-rich soils and garrigue give a lighter, more perfumed reading of the southern Rhône than the Grenache-dominated wines further east. The estate is certified organic. Les Chèvrefeuilles comes from hillside vines facing south and east at an average altitude of 250 metres on loess and limestone. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan are joined by a little Marselan, taken from old vines that Olivier Klein values for the acidity it brings to the blend. The grapes are sorted and mostly destemmed before a natural ferment in concrete, though the Carignan goes through carbonic maceration. Little or no sulphur is used during vinification and the wine then spends a year in concrete before bottling. Named for the honeysuckle, it is supple and airy, with mulberry, anise and spice box, sinewy limestone-derived tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
Ready now and good for another four or five years. Serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb cutlets, mushroom risotto or a mild merguez.
