Description
Domaine la Réméjeanne Un Air de Réméjeanne is a certified-organic Côtes du Rhône from highland vineyards on the right bank of the river.
Domaine la Réméjeanne lies in the Gard, west of the Rhône, where Olivier Klein farms certified-organic vineyards on highland sandy-limestone soils around the hamlet of Sabran. Higher and cooler than much of the southern Rhône, these sites suit a lighter reading of Grenache. Un Air de Réméjeanne is the entry point to the range and runs seventy per cent Grenache to thirty per cent Syrah. Everything is picked by hand and sorted, then mostly destemmed ahead of a five-day cold soak. Fermentation is natural, and the wine matures for seven to eight months in concrete tanks, so there is no oak character whatsoever. It is bottled unfined and only lightly filtered. What Klein is after is a vin de soif: bright red fruit, the garrigue perfume of lavender, sage and thyme that the country around Sabran throws off, and a gentle caress of tannin.
Made for drinking young, over the next two or three years. Serve at 16-18°C, or lightly chilled, with grilled lamb cutlets, sausages or a tomato tart.
