Domaine Laroque D'Antan IGP Côtes du Lot Néphèle Blanc 2020

Domaine Laroque d’Antan Néphèle Blanc is a co-fermented field blend from two hectares of fractured Kimmeridgian limestone in the Lot.

The Côtes du Lot IGP covers the country around Cahors in south-west France, and Laroque d’Antan is the estate of the Bourguignon family, better known as soil scientists. Néphèle blends Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, which together make up three-quarters of the wine, with Mauzac and the rare local Verdanel; the Sauvignon cuttings came from limestone and flint vineyards in the upper Loire. The white portion of the vineyard sits on the upper slope, where fractured Kimmeridgian rock is covered by only twenty centimetres of workable topsoil. In traditional field-blend fashion, all the grapes are whole-bunch pressed and co-fermented, a process that can run for up to three months as the wild yeasts work through, in a mix of mature barrels and stainless steel. Ageing is ten months in used barrels sourced from Domaine Jacques Selosse.

Drinking well now and capable of five years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled prawns or a plate of hard sheep’s cheese.
