Description
Domaine Les Pallières Terrasse du Diable Gigondas takes its name from the terraced vineyards that climb the slope beneath the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Gigondas was promoted from Cotes du Rhone Villages to its own appellation in 1971, and its reds are led by Grenache grown on limestone scree and clay in the shadow of the Dentelles, a jagged ridge that shelters the commune and lifts its vineyards well above the Rhone valley floor. Les Pallières is one of the oldest estates in the village and has been owned since 1998 by the Brunier brothers of Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe together with the American importer Kermit Lynch. This is one of two bottlings the estate produces, with Mourvedre and Clairette joining the Grenache, fermented traditionally and aged in large old wood.
Decant and serve at 16 to 18C with roast or grilled lamb, game, daube of beef or aged sheep's cheese; it repays several years in the cellar.
