Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis, in magnum, is drawn chiefly from 20- to 30-year-old vineyards at Préhy and Courgis, south of the town.

Chablis sits well north of the rest of Burgundy, and its Kimmeridgian limestone gives Chardonnay a lean, saline character found nowhere else. Moreau-Naudet, now run by Virginie Moreau, works around thirty parcels scattered across the appellation, covering a range of soils and exposures. This village wine comes mainly from Préhy and Courgis to the south, with further parcels in Chablis itself and in Chichée below the premier cru vines of Vaugiraut and Vosgros. Fruit from the youngest vines is sold off in bulk, which lifts the standard of what remains. The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed gently over four hours, then fermented with natural yeasts, still a rarity in Chablis. Maturation is mostly in tank and unhurried, with twenty months on lees, far longer than most wines at this level, giving texture alongside the salty cut. Sealed under Diam.

Ready on release and good for five to eight years in magnum; serve with oysters, grilled fish or a fresh goat's cheese at 10-12°C.
