Description
Les Beauregards is the most south-westerly of the Chablis Premiers Crus, bottled here in magnum.
Chablis sits well north of the rest of Burgundy on Kimmeridgian limestone and marl, and Beauregard lies at the far end of its Left Bank, one of the coolest, steepest and highest of the Premiers Crus at up to 300 metres. The clay soils are shallow on this incline, so the limestone marl is never far from the surface. The parcel has been in the family for decades but was replanted in 2001 with mass-selection cuttings taken from Stéphane Moreau's best vines; now that they have passed twenty years of age, Virginie Moreau considers them intense enough to join the domaine's range. The vines catch only the coolest sun and are among the last picked in the village. The wine is raised in stainless steel alone, with no oak.
Drink from now to about eight years, and longer in magnum; serve at 10–12°C with oysters, grilled fish or fresh goat's cheese.
