Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Beauregard comes from the most south-westerly and one of the highest of the Chablis premiers crus, and is raised in stainless steel alone.
Les Beauregards sits at the far end of the Chablis left bank, rising to 300 metres, and its altitude and position make it one of the coolest sites in the appellation as well as one of the steepest. The slope keeps the clay shallow, so the limestone marl is never far below the surface. The Moreau family has held this parcel of almost one hectare for decades; it was replanted in 2001 using mass-selection cuttings taken from Stéphane Moreau’s most treasured vines, and now that those vines have passed twenty years Virginie Moreau considers them intense enough to join the domaine range. High on the hill and catching only the coolest sun, Beauregard is among the last vineyards picked each year. The wine is fermented and raised in stainless steel, which leaves the tension and pithy citrus of the site exposed, with a floral lift and a savoury, spicy edge to the fruit.
Drinking well now and holding for five to seven years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, sashimi or a chicken and tarragon terrine.
