Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Montmains, in magnum, comes from 0.65 hectares of vines averaging seventy years of age.
Montmains lies on the opposite flank of the Valvan valley from Vaillons, on deep bleu d'argile, a blue clay studded with limestone rocks, a combination that tends to produce textbook Chablis of minerality and drive. Moreau-Naudet's holding is spread over three lieux-dits, Les Monts Mains, Les Bouts des Butteaux and Vaux Miolot, with vines averaging seventy years. The Vaux Miolot parcel, on deeper clay soils, is difficult to work but contributes extra flesh and texture. This year the wine was vinified and aged entirely without oak to maximise freshness, a decision that has paid off: the depth of the site is present but the wine stays taut, balanced and long. Hand harvesting, natural yeasts and extended maturation are standard here. Sealed under Diam.
Drinking well from release and good for eight to ten years in magnum; serve with oysters, grilled white fish or goat's cheese at 10-12°C.
