Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Les Pargues Vieilles Vignes, in magnum, comes from a lieu-dit on the ridge between the Montmains and Vosgros premiers crus.
Les Pargues shares its exposure with Vaillons and Montmains, and local growers have long argued it deserved better than village status; the story runs that it was classified premier cru before the appellation system was formalised, then largely abandoned during the war when labour was short and missed out when the boundaries were drawn. Whatever the accuracy of that account, the position and the thin, stony soils give an intense, mineral wine. Moreau-Naudet's parcel here is tiny, with vines averaging over fifty years, and yields are extremely low at 15 to 25 hl/ha. Vinification uses only 10% barrel, the rest tank, so the site speaks plainly. Sealed under Diam. The wine is vivid and layered, rocky and energetic, with a long, briny close.
It punches above its classification and will drink well for eight years in magnum; serve with oysters, grilled prawns or goat's cheese at 10-12°C.
