Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Les Pargues Vieilles Vignes 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Les Pargues Vieilles Vignes is a village Chablis from a lieu-dit that growers in the town have long argued should have been classified premier cru.

Les Pargues runs along a ridge between the Montmains and Vosgros premiers crus and shares much of the exposure of Vaillons and Montmains, which makes it a useful site in a cool appellation. The story told locally is that it was ranked as a premier cru before the AOC boundaries were drawn, then largely abandoned during the war for want of labour, and so missed out when the classification was finally settled. Whatever the truth of that, the position and the thin, stony soils give a markedly mineral wine. Moreau-Naudet farms 1.8 hectares here, alongside Domaine Servin, with vines averaging more than sixty years and yields held to 15-25 hl/ha. About 30 per cent of the wine is raised in barrel and the remainder in tank, building a layered, succulent texture without masking the rocky core or the long, saline finish. This is the 1.5-litre magnum.

Approachable on release and capable of five to eight years in the cellar, with the magnum format slowing that further. Serve at 10-12°C with freshly shucked oysters, grilled snapper or a simple plate of prosciutto.
