Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils L'Unique VDF Rouge is a Vin de France red that lets one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's leading family estates step outside the constraints of AOC rules.

Released under the Vin de France classification rather than an appellation, L'Unique allows Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils to experiment with grape blending and ageing methods, including the use of amphorae, that are not permitted within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC. Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils was founded in 1931 when Francis Usseglio emigrated from Italy and began working the vines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape; the estate remains in family hands four generations later, now farming close to 48 hectares across Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, Côtes du Rhône and Vin de France plantings. The family's approach favours hand-harvesting and a close reading of each parcel's soils, applied consistently across all of the estate's Southern Rhône appellations.

It is a wine made for those curious to see a classic Southern Rhône producer working outside the usual rules, with a lifted, fresher style than the estate's appellation wines.
