Description

Domaine Plageoles Gaillac Le Braucol is an organic red made from Braucol, the Gaillac name for the south-western variety Fer Servadou.

Gaillac, on the Tarn north-east of Toulouse, holds one of the deepest collections of indigenous varieties in France, and the Plageoles family has spent three generations documenting and replanting them. Braucol is known elsewhere in the south-west as Fer Servadou, and as Mansois in Marcillac. This bottling comes from a parcel of 30- to 35-year-old vines on clay and limestone soils, farmed organically, with yields deliberately kept low. Florent Plageoles now vinifies it with 50 per cent carbonic maceration, which lifts the fruit and makes the wine more immediately drinkable, and ages it in cement tanks alone, bottling without filtration. The nearest reference points are a Gaillac take on Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais with some sappy stem character, though the variety has a distinct personality of its own.

Drink over the next three to four years. Serve at 16°C, lightly chilled if you prefer, with charcuterie, grilled sausages or roast pork.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
