Domaine Ponsot Gevrey Chambertin Cuvée de l'Abeille 2020

Domaine Ponsot Gevrey Chambertin Cuvée de l'Abeille comes from half a hectare in Les Epointures, replanted after 2012 and bottled again for the first time since.

Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest of the Côte de Nuits communes and its village land ranges widely in quality; Les Epointures sits in a good position beneath Clos-Prieur and close to Chapelle-Chambertin. Domaine Ponsot, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, is one of the oldest estates on the Côte and has long worked in an idiosyncratic way, picking late, keeping yields very low and using no new oak. This parcel was replanted following the 2012 harvest with mass-selection cuttings at 11,000 vines per hectare, and for the time being only the best of the fruit goes into the cuvée, with the remainder declassified into the domaine's Bourgogne rouge. L'Abeille means honeybee, one of several bird and insect names Ponsot uses across its range.

Drink from two or three years and across the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, duck confit or a mushroom risotto.
