Description
Domaine Ponsot Grand Cru Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes is the estate's emblematic red, made from just over three hectares within the original walled Clos.
Clos de la Roche is the largest Grand Cru of Morey-Saint-Denis, and its boundaries were extended in the 1950s to take in neighbouring sites including Les Fremières, Les Genevrières, Les Mochamps and Monts Luisants. The original 4.5-hectare Clos is widely held to be the finest part, and Ponsot owns just over three hectares of it, making the domaine much the largest landholder. The remainder of its holding lies in Monts Luisants, higher on the slope but on the same soil, and has always been bottled as Clos de la Roche; that fruit brings freshness to the natural power of the original Clos. The vines average around sixty-five years of age. How much of the result comes from terroir, how much from vine age, plant material and farming is impossible to separate.
A wine for the long term, it needs a decade and will run much further; serve with roast beef, game or aged hard cheese at 16 to 18°C.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
