Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes Blanc 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes Blanc is the only premier cru in Burgundy made entirely from Aligoté, here in magnum.

The Clos is a Ponsot monopole and was for many years the sole white premier cru in Morey-Saint-Denis; Dujac now makes a white Monts Luisants, though not from within the walls. Small amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Gouges, a white mutation of Pinot Noir, have appeared in the blend at various points in its history, but from 2004 the wine returned to pure Aligoté, drawn mainly from a selection planted in 1911. Since 2015 a younger-vine parcel has made up 15 per cent of the blend, bringing the average age to roughly ninety years. Soils are grèzes litées over white oolite and a Dijon-Corton limestone base. The grapes are pneumatically pressed, fermented in tank and barrel and aged in neutral oak, in barriques between ten and sixty years old.

Slow to open and very long-lived, it rewards five years or more; serve with roast chicken, richer fish or hard cheese at 10 to 12°C.
