Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes Blanc is the only premier cru in Burgundy planted entirely to Aligoté.

The Clos is a Ponsot monopole and was for a long time the only white premier cru in Morey-Saint-Denis; Dujac now makes a white Monts Luisants, but not from inside the walls. Small quantities of Chardonnay and Pinot Gouges, a white mutation of Pinot Noir, have featured at times in the vineyard's history, but from 2004 the wine went back to pure Aligoté, most of it from a selection planted in 1911. Since 2015 a younger-vine parcel has accounted for 15 per cent of the blend, bringing the average vine age down to about ninety years. The soils are grèzes litées over white oolite and a Dijon-Corton limestone base. Grapes are pressed pneumatically, fermented in tank and barrel and aged in neutral oak, in barriques of ten to sixty years old.

Ageworthy and slow to unfold, it is best from five years; serve with roast chicken, richer fish or a mature hard cheese at 10 to 12°C.
