Description
Domaine Theulot-Juillot Mercurey Vieilles Vignes Rouge is drawn from three lieux-dits whose vines average a shade over 50 years.
Mercurey is the largest of the Côte Chalonnaise appellations and the one with the strongest reputation for red wine. The three sites here work in different directions: Les Montelons sits at the top of the slope at 300 metres on beige marl and brings freshness and tightly packed fruit; Le Clos Laurent, sheltered from the wind in the centre of the village, contributes earthiness and darker fruit; and Les Vaux, in a deep valley north of the town at around 250 metres, adds density and bite. Everything is destemmed, and most of the wine spends twelve months in barrel with about 20 per cent new oak, a small proportion staying in tank for this vintage. The wine is juicy and well built, with old-vine depth and enough structure to reward cellaring.
Approachable from two years and good for eight to ten. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, mushroom pie or a semi-hard cheese.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
