Description
Domaine Vincent Girardin Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is a Côte de Nuits village wine from old vines, made in the firm, structured style for which this appellation is renowned.
Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest and, by reputation, most powerful red-wine village of the Côte de Nuits, home to nine grand cru vineyards including Chambertin itself, with clay-limestone soils that give its Pinot Noir extra grip and structure. Domaine Vincent Girardin, founded in Meursault in 1980 by Vincent Girardin, built its reputation on meticulous, near-biodynamic farming — avoiding herbicides and insecticides, using natural composts, and hand-harvesting and sorting all fruit — a philosophy carried on by winemaker Eric Germain since the estate passed to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois in 2012.
Structured and built with some cellaring in mind, it pairs well with richer fare such as braised or roasted red meats and mature cheeses.
