Description
Domaine Vincent Girardin Pommard Vieilles Vignes is an old-vine village red from Pommard, a Côte de Beaune commune known for producing some of Burgundy's sturdiest, most structured Pinot Noir.
Pommard's iron-rich clay soils give its wines firm tannins and real depth, and old, low-yielding vines add further concentration to the fruit. Domaine Vincent Girardin, founded in Meursault in 1980 by Vincent Girardin, built its reputation on meticulous, near-biodynamic farming — avoiding herbicides and insecticides, using natural composts, and hand-harvesting and sorting all fruit — a philosophy carried on by winemaker Eric Germain since the estate passed to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois in 2012.
A wine of real presence, it suits richer, slow-cooked dishes and roast red meats, and will reward some time in the cellar.
