Description
Description
Domaine Xavier Monnot Bourgogne Rouge is the regional level Pinot Noir from a family domaine based in Meursault.
Bourgogne Rouge is the entry point to red Burgundy, an appellation that spans the whole region and, in the hands of a good Côte de Beaune grower, is generally made from parcels close to the villages themselves. Xavier Monnot took over the family estate in Meursault, which had traded for generations under an earlier name, and farms holdings scattered across the Côte de Beaune from Puligny in the south to Beaune in the north. The reds are handled traditionally: destemmed to a greater or lesser degree depending on the year, fermented in vat and raised in barrel, with new oak used sparingly at this level so the fruit is not overwhelmed.
Serve at around 15 to 16 degrees, a touch cooler than most reds, with charcuterie, roast chicken, or a plate of Comté.
