Description
Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Gaisböhl Riesling is a Grand Cru monopole in Ruppertsberg, owned in its entirety by the estate.
Gaisböhl covers roughly eight hectares on the Ruppertsberg slope and has belonged to Dr. Bürklin-Wolf alone for generations, making it one of the very few monopole Grosse Lage sites in Germany. The soils are sandy loam over gravel and weathered sandstone, free-draining and warm, which produces a Riesling of unusual depth and ripeness for Ruppertsberg while keeping the village's characteristic clarity. The estate ranks it G.C., its own term for Grand Cru. Farming is biodynamic and Demeter certified. Fruit is hand-harvested in several passes, whole-bunch pressed and fermented spontaneously in large old oak casks, then matured on fine lees for the best part of a year before a dry bottling.
Powerful and dry, and it needs several years to show its full shape; serve at around 12 degrees with roast veal, lobster, or richly sauced poultry.
