Description
Equipo Navazos La Bota 114 de Florpower is an unfortified single-vineyard Palomino aged eight months under flor.
The Florpower wines look back to a period in Andalucían winemaking before fortification became the norm, and this is Navazos' second single-vineyard white. Where the Navazos-Niepoort bottling comes from Macharnudo Alto in Jerez, this one is drawn from Sanlúcar's most revered terroir, the pago Miraflores, and specifically from Palomino vines of fifty-five and eighty-five years in the La Baja lieu-dit. The Tosca Cerrada albariza there gives roundness and floral charm rather than the power of Macharnudo, along with the oyster-shell salinity typical of Sanlúcar. The wine was fermented in 600-litre Jerez casks and aged under flor for eight months before bottling at 11.5 per cent alcohol, under screwcap. Earlier releases spent considerably longer in cask; the shorter cycle is a deliberate move to put more of the vineyard, and less of the ageing, in the glass, though some waxy, nutty complexity from flor and cask remains.
Drink over the next five years with oysters, jamón, grilled fish or almonds. Serve at 10-12°C.
