Description
Equipo Navazos La Bota 122 Vermut Rojo is a sweet vermouth built on a five-year-old Oloroso, the first release of a recipe worked on over several years.
Vermut de Jerez was a fixture in AndalucĂa from the late 1800s through the middle of the twentieth century, backed by houses such as Valdespino and Lustau, and the style has been returning to favour. For their version, Eduardo Ojeda and JesĂșs BarquĂn chose a five-year-old Oloroso from a prestigious Jerez bodega as the base wine. Into it Ojeda steeps a blend of botanicals including wormwood, coriander, liquorice, elderflower, juniper, bitter orange peel and grapefruit peel, all of which grow wild in the fields and mountains of AndalucĂa. This is a small-batch, artisanal release bottled at 17.5 per cent. It leans to the traditional, spicy-citrus side, with the sweetness of the Oloroso measured against an elegant bitterness and a long, clean finish.
In Spain a vermouth of this quality would be served neat or over ice with a slice of orange; serve chilled as an aperitif with olives, almonds or a plate of jamĂłn.
