Description
Eric Bordelet Poiré Granit is a single-soil Normandy perry drawn from pear trees up to three hundred years old.
Granit comes from Eric Bordelet's oldest orchard block at Charchigné, where a stand of perry pear trees, some of them around three centuries old, sits on decomposed granite. Very old trees root deeply and crop lightly, giving small, intensely flavoured fruit with firm tannin and high acidity. Bordelet farms the orchards organically and biodynamically, presses gently and ferments on wild yeast through a long, cold winter, then bottles with residual sugar so the sparkle develops naturally in bottle without any added sugar or gas. Alcohol stays low, around 4%, and the wine is the estate's most structured and long-lived perry.
Detailed and mineral rather than simply sweet; try it with shellfish, roast pork or a pear tart, and serve well chilled at six to eight degrees.
