Description
Famille Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Sinards comes from the family behind Chateau de Beaucastel, one of the great names of the southern Rhone.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape takes its name from the papal court at Avignon in the fourteenth century, and in the 1920s Baron Le Roy drew up rules for the vineyard here that became the template for the French appellation system. The Perrin family has farmed Beaucastel since the early twentieth century and works organically across its holdings. Les Sinards draws on a vineyard on the plateau near Beaucastel together with fruit from the estate's younger vines, blending Grenache with Mourvedre and Syrah. The soils are the famous galets roules, rounded stones deposited by the Rhone that hold the day's heat and release it overnight. Thirteen varieties are permitted in the appellation, though Grenache remains its heart.
Decant half an hour ahead and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with lamb, daube of beef or hard sheep's cheese.
