Description
Famille Perrin Domaine du Clos des Tourelles Gigondas is a single walled vineyard in the heart of Gigondas, in the hands of the family behind Chateau de Beaucastel.
Gigondas sits under the Dentelles de Montmirail, a saw-toothed limestone outcrop that gives the appellation both its shelter and its stony soils. The village made wine for the Avignon popes and for Roman legions before that, and it earned cru status in its own right in 1971, no longer bottled as Cotes du Rhone Villages. Grenache is the backbone, with Syrah in support, grown on clay and limestone scree at altitudes that keep nights cool. The Clos des Tourelles is a walled plot in the village itself, complete with a historic cellar, and the Perrin family farm it organically and vinify the fruit apart from their other holdings.
Decant an hour ahead and serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, game or a rich beef daube.
