Description
Famille Perrin Domaine du Clos Tourelles Gigondas comes from a walled clos in the village of Gigondas, farmed by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel.
The Gigondas vineyards climb the slopes below the Dentelles de Montmirail, the limestone ridge that shields the southern Rhone valley here and supplies the stony, well-drained soils. Gigondas was raised from Cotes du Rhone Villages to its own appellation in 1971 and is required to be built around Grenache, usually with Syrah or Mourvedre alongside. This bottling comes from the Clos des Tourelles, a walled vineyard with its own old cellar in the middle of the village, which the Perrin family farm organically and keep separate through vinification and ageing. The Perrins have run Beaucastel for four generations and are among the region's most consistent growers, farming organically well before it was fashionable.
Decant and serve at around 17 degrees with lamb, game birds or braised beef.
