Description
Famille Perrin Les Chapouins Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is an old vine bottling from the most famous appellation of the southern Rhone.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape owes its name to the papacy's fourteenth century move to Avignon, and its modern shape to Baron Le Roy, whose vineyard rules of the 1920s became the model for appellation law across France. The vineyards spread over a plateau north of Avignon where rounded galets roules, sandstone and clay sit side by side, and where the mistral keeps the vines dry and healthy. Grenache noir leads the blend, joined by Mourvedre and Syrah, from old vines that give small crops of concentrated fruit. The Perrin family, custodians of Chateau de Beaucastel for four generations, farm organically and vinify their parcels separately.
Decant an hour ahead and serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, game or a daube of beef; it will reward a decade in the cellar.
