Description
Frederic & Daniel Brunier Le Pigeoulet des Brunier is a Grenache-led country red from the Vaucluse, made by the family behind Châteauneuf-du-Pape's Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe.
Frédéric and Daniel Brunier run Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe on the La Crau plateau in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Le Pigeoulet is their everyday Vaucluse red, drawn from vineyards outside the appellation boundaries on sand, clay and stone in the wider country east of the village. Grenache Noir does the heavy lifting, supported by Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, the traditional company of the southern Rhône. Vinification is deliberately simple and ageing takes place in concrete and older wood rather than new barrels, so nothing gets in the way of the fruit and the site. The intention is a wine for the table, made with the care of the domaine's grander bottlings.
Serve lightly chilled, at around 15 degrees, with charcuterie, grilled meats, tomato-based pasta or a simple roast chicken. It is made to be drunk young.
