Gregoire Hoppenot Fleurie Les Moriers 2020

Gregoire Hoppenot Fleurie Les Moriers is a single-terroir Gamay from the steep east-facing slope that borders Moulin-à-Vent.

Les Moriers lies at the southern edge of Fleurie, sharing boundaries with Poncié, Les Roches and Les Garants and looking across to the windmill of Moulin-à-Vent, and it has long been regarded as one of the cru's more structured sites. The slope rises from 260 to 340 metres and carries two distinct soils: very poor, shallow granitic sand at the top and progressively heavier clay over granite bedrock in the Bas de Moriers below. Grégoire Hoppenot farms almost three hectares across both sectors, with vine age from thirty-five to ninety years, and reserves the best fruit for this bottling. In recognition of the site's power, the wine spends eight months in a mix of large oak foudre and mature Burgundian barrels that have already seen five vintages.

Approachable now and worth holding five to eight years. Serve at 16°C with roast pork, duck rillettes or a mushroom tart.
