Description
Gregoire Hoppenot Fleurie Les Moriers comes from almost three hectares of an east-facing hillside on the Fleurie border with Moulin-à-Vent.
Les Moriers sits at the southern edge of Fleurie, overlooking the famous windmill of Moulin-à-Vent and sharing boundaries with Poncié, Les Roches and Les Garants. Grégoire Hoppenot farms nearly three hectares across it, with vine age running from 35 to 90 years. The slope rises from 260 metres at the Moulin-à-Vent border to 340 metres at the top and holds two distinct soils: shallow, poor granitic sand at the top of the hill, becoming heavier as clay increases over the granite bedrock in the Bas de Moriers. Hoppenot farms in both sectors and reserves the best fruit for this single-terroir bottling. Recognising the weight of the site, he gives the wine eight months in a combination of large oak foudre and mature Burgundian barrels that have already seen five vintages.
Drinking now and worth six to eight years. Serve at 16°C with roast duck, beef bourguignon or a plate of charcuterie.
