Description
Gregoire Hoppenot Fleurie Origines gathers the parcels of his estate that are in conversion to organic farming, including old vines in four well-known lieux-dits.
Grégoire Hoppenot came to Fleurie from the wine trade and has established himself quickly among the cru's more closely watched growers. Origines is the home for the vineyards in conversion to organics, and the wine consequently includes a good deal of old-vine material from the lieux-dits of Les Roches, La Roilette, Les Garants and Les Moriers, with average vine age touching fifty years. Those are serious addresses for a bottling at this level of the range. Hoppenot harvested these vines early, which accounts in part for the vibrancy and mineral clarity of the wine. Fermentation ran with whole bunches and ambient yeasts for twelve days, after which the wine was raised for six months in concrete, so there is no oak influence at all and the granite of the cru speaks plainly.
Drinking well now and good for four or five years. Serve at 16-18°C, or lightly chilled, with roast pork, duck rillettes or a tomato tart.
