Description
Description
Grosset Polish Hill Riesling comes from a single vineyard in the Clare Valley planted on shallow soil over slate.
Polish Hill River sits in the eastern Clare Valley, where the topsoil is thin and the rock beneath it is broken shale, forcing vines to struggle and giving wines a tighter, more austere frame than the limestone-based sites at Watervale. Jeffrey Grosset founded the winery at Auburn in 1981 and has bottled Polish Hill separately ever since, making it one of the reference points for Australian Riesling. The fruit is hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, fermented cool in stainless steel and bottled early, with no oak, from vineyards farmed organically.
Serve cold, around 8 degrees, with oysters, sashimi or a Thai salad. It ages for a decade and more, taking on toast and citrus peel.
