Guffens-Heynen Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Jus des Croux 2017

Guffens-Heynen Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Jus des Croux is a single-climat Chardonnay from the tiny Mâconnais domaine Jean-Marie Guffens founded in 1979.

Pouilly-Fuissé takes in the villages beneath the limestone escarpments of Solutré and Vergisson at the southern end of Burgundy, and Guffens-Heynen did more than any other estate to show that the appellation could stand comparison with the Côte de Beaune. Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen work a very small holding on low yields, pick later than most of their neighbours and press whole bunches slowly; the 1er Jus cuvées are drawn from the first-run juice alone. Fermentation and ageing take place in barrel with indigenous yeasts, and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.

Worth a few years in the cellar; serve with roast chicken, scallops or comté at 10-12°C.
