Description
Guigal Condrieu 'La Doriane' is the house's flagship Viognier, drawn from the steepest terraces of the small Condrieu appellation in the northern Rhône.
Condrieu is given over to Viognier alone, on granite slopes above the river that fall away so sharply they have to be terraced and worked entirely by hand. The appellation almost vanished in the middle of the twentieth century, reduced to a few hectares of vines, and Guigal was central to its recovery. La Doriane comes from mature vines on prized sites including Colombier and Côte Châtillon, and unlike the estate's classic Condrieu it is fermented and aged wholly in oak barrels, a portion of them new. The house was founded at Ampuis in 1946 by Étienne Guigal and is directed today by his grandson Philippe.
Best at 10 to 12 degrees with lobster, roast poultry or veal in cream, and it will hold in a cool cellar for several years.
