Description
HEAD Ancestor Vine Grenache comes from some of the oldest Grenache plantings on earth.
Ancestor Vine is a Barossa classification for vines planted before 1843, the oldest tier in the valley's register, and material of that age is exceptionally rare. South Australia's quarantine laws kept phylloxera out, which is why these plantings survive at all. Alex Head released this alongside the Redhead Shiraz as the top of his range. The wine is fermented with native yeast and matured in older French oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Serve slightly cool at 16 degrees with roast lamb, duck or mushroom dishes. It rewards fifteen years.
