Henriques & Henriques Sercial 10Yo is the driest of the classic Madeira styles, aged for a minimum of ten years.

Madeira is a volcanic island in the Atlantic, and its wines are defined by heat: fortified, then deliberately warmed and oxidised until they become close to indestructible. Henriques & Henriques, based at Câmara de Lobos, is one of the oldest shippers on the island and one of the few with substantial vineyards of its own. Sercial is planted at the highest and coolest sites, which is why it keeps the acidity that makes it the driest of the four classic styles. Wines at this age are matured by the canteiro method, in cask in warm lofts, rather than by the faster estufagem tank system used for younger blends, and a decade of slow, gentle heating is what builds the brown spice, nut and citrus-peel character and the long finish that is at once smoky and refreshing. This is a 500ml bottle.

It is stable and will keep for months after opening. Serve lightly chilled at 12-14°C as an aperitif, or with consommé, tapas, sashimi or seafood.
