Description

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG is an estate grown wine from the highest classification within Chianti Classico.

The Gran Selezione category was created in 2013 to sit above Riserva, and it may only be used for wines made from a producer's own vineyards, with longer minimum ageing and a stricter set of requirements than the rest of the appellation. Isole e Olena stands near Barberino Tavarnelle at the north-western edge of the zone, formed in the 1950s when the De Marchi family united two adjoining farms, and it has been one of the reference points for the region since the 1980s. Fruit comes from selected estate parcels and the wine is matured in French oak before release. The estate passed to the French group EPI in 2022.

Decant and serve at around 18 degrees with roast lamb, game or hard aged cheeses. A format that suits the wine's long maturation.
