Jaeger Defaix Rully Blanc 1er Cru Les Cloux 2018

Jaeger Defaix Rully Blanc 1er Cru Les Cloux is a white Burgundy made from the domaine's oldest vines, planted in Les Cloux in 1944.

Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, a source of white Burgundy that trades on freshness rather than weight. Les Cloux lies just south of the village on a south-easterly slope of premier cru land looking out over the plain of the Saône. Domaine Jaeger Defaix works its oldest vines here, planted in 1944 on the clay and limestone mix that underpins most of the better sites in Burgundy. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2009 and is in its third year of Ecocert certification. Old vines and a warm exposure give the fruit concentration, while the limestone keeps the acidity taut, and Les Cloux is known within Rully for holding the two together — flesh on the palate with a tangy grip and fine length. The bottle is sealed under a Diam closure.

It drinks well now and has the structure to hold in bottle for several more years. Serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, grilled white fish or a washed-rind cheese.
