JC's Own Barossa Grenache 2022

JC's Own Barossa Grenache is drawn from bush vines around 150 years old in the Angaston foothills.

JC's Own is the personal label of Barossa winemaker Jaysen Collins, co-founder of Massena, and this wine comes from some of the region's most venerable vines. The Angaston foothills rise on the eastern side of the Barossa Valley towards the Eden Valley, where higher elevation and cooler conditions than the valley floor help preserve freshness in the fruit. The Grenache here grows on bush vines around 150 years old, a legacy of the Barossa's nineteenth century plantings, which survived because the region has never been affected by phylloxera. Such old, unirrigated vines yield very little fruit, giving Grenache of concentration and fine, persistent tannin, and the wine is made to show that intensity with balance.

Concentrated yet fine, it pairs with slow roasted lamb, duck and game; serve at around 16 to 17 degrees.
