Description
JC's Own Bluebird Grenache is a Barossa Grenache from bush vines at Light Pass planted in 1888.
JC's Own is the personal label of Barossa winemaker Jaysen Collins, co-founder of Massena, drawing on some of the valley's older vineyards. Bluebird comes from Light Pass, on the eastern side of the Barossa Valley floor near Nuriootpa, where deep sandy soils have supported old Grenache for well over a century. These bush vines were planted in 1888, making them among the older Grenache plantings in a region that holds some of the oldest vines in the world, thanks to its freedom from phylloxera. Unirrigated old bush vines give small crops of concentrated fruit, and Grenache from them combines perfume with a fine, sandy tannin structure. The wine is made to express that fruit with restraint.
Perfumed and fine grained, it suits roast lamb, chargrilled vegetables and Mediterranean dishes; serve at around 16 degrees.
