Description
Jean-Louis Chavy Puligny-Montrachet Charmes is a single lieu-dit bottling from a small family domaine in the village itself.
Les Charmes is a village-level lieu-dit in Puligny-Montrachet rather than one of the commune's premier crus, and parcels like it are bottled separately when a grower thinks the site is distinct enough to show on its own. Puligny sits on a thin band of limestone with the water table close beneath it, which is why its whites are taut, high-toned and more mineral than the broader wines of neighbouring Meursault. Jean-Louis Chavy farms a small holding across the village from a cellar in Puligny, taken on when the Gérard Chavy domaine was divided among the family. Whole-bunch pressing, barrel fermentation, restrained new oak and long lees ageing are the norm here.
Tight and citrus-driven, it suits oysters, sole and fresh goat cheese; serve at around 12 degrees.
