Jo Landron Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Amphibolite 2022

Jo Landron Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Amphibolite takes its name from the greenish metamorphic bedrock the vines are rooted in.

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine lies inland from the Atlantic around Nantes, and its Melon de Bourgogne is defined as much by bedrock as by variety, with granite, gneiss, gabbro and amphibolite each leaving a mark. Domaine Landron farms biodynamically at La Haye-Fouassière, and Amphibolite is one of Jo Landron's signature cuvées, named for the green metamorphic rock beneath the parcel. The vines are 35 to 40 years old. Unusually for the region, the wine spends only a short period on lees, since Landron wants to keep as much freshness and mineral definition as possible rather than build weight. Only small doses of sulphur are used, enough to block malolactic conversion, and the wine is bottled without filtration at 11.5 per cent alcohol. Landron describes it as a free-spirited Muscadet.

Drink young, within two or three years, with oysters, mussels or fish and chips. Serve at 10 degrees.
