Jo Landron Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Les Houx 2019

Jo Landron Les Houx is a single-parcel Muscadet Sèvre et Maine from one of the domaine's oldest vineyards.

Muscadet is grown at the Atlantic end of the Loire, where Melon de Bourgogne and the region's varied bedrock produce far more distinct wines than the appellation's reputation suggests. Les Houx, at La Haye-Fouassière, is one of Jo Landron's oldest holdings. The mature, low-yielding vines are rooted in shallow sandy clay soils rich in quartz and shot through with iron, over a bedrock of gneiss and clay, and this gives a denser, fleshier and more complex style than the domaine's other cuvées. Ageing on fine lees adds texture without obscuring the site. For all the extra flesh, the rocky, acid soils of the parcel keep the wine fresh even in warmer years, which is what separates a serious single-parcel Muscadet from a simple sur lie bottling.

Drinking well now and capable of ten years or more. The classic match is oysters, but it also suits grilled fish and roast pork. Serve at 10-12°C.
