Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese in magnum is Auslese from the estate's home slope, in the format that ages most gracefully.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a steep terrace of blue Devonian slate above the Mosel, named for the sundial built into the hillside so that pickers could tell the time, and Joh. Jos. Prüm has been its leading owner for over a century. Auslese at this level is about power and ripeness rather than sugar: more flesh, more complexity and greater length than the Spätlese, in a style that stays pure and ultra-fine. Wehlen is the rounder and deeper of the estate's two main sites. Everything about the making is deliberate and slow — cool fermentation, natural sweetness, low alcohol, late bottling and a later release again — and a magnum carries that patience on into the cellar.

Fine now, but built for the long term. Serve at 8–10°C with pork, venison, roast chicken or a broad selection of cheeses.
