Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is a sweet Mosel Riesling from the sundial vineyard at Wehlen, offered in a half bottle.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr rises steeply above the Mosel on blue Devonian slate, its name taken from the sundial built into the slope, and it is the vineyard most closely identified with Joh. Jos. Prüm at Wehlen. The Auslese level here is a step up in power and intensity rather than simply in sweetness: where the Spätlese wines revel in juicy drive, this bracket adds flesh, complexity and length. Prüm's house style is famously pure and fine-boned, with low alcohol, high acidity and a reductive character that can take years to unwind, though the more fruit-forward recent releases show their quality early. The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts in large old casks and bottled with their natural residual sugar intact.

Delicious young and capable of decades; serve at 8-10C with pork belly, roast chicken, ceviche or a range of Chinese and Japanese dishes.
