Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel is a half-bottle of the estate's rare gold-capsule Auslese from the Wehlen sundial slope.

Joh. Jos. Prüm has been the reference point for Wehlener Sonnenuhr for a century, working the steep blue-slate terraces named for the sundial cut into the hillside in the 1840s. Auslese here is picked late from riper bunches; the Goldkapsel designation, which carries no legal weight, marks the small lots the estate sets aside as the best Auslese of a harvest. Reaching that level takes several passes through the vineyard and draconian selection, and the fruit is stronger, with more concentrated juice and usually some botrytis. Power and weight rise noticeably as a result. Fermentation stays long and cool, alcohol stays low, and the wine is bottled with substantial natural sweetness. Even in half-bottle these will age for decades, trading sugar for elegance, harmony and complexity.

Approachable young, but far more rewarding after long cellaring. Serve at 8–10°C with robust savoury dishes, hard cheeses or a fruit-based dessert.
